How to Play FreeCell (Three Decks)

Game Objective

The goal of FreeCell (Three Decks) is to move all 156 cards to the foundation piles. You achieve this by building sequences of cards up by suit that start with an Ace and end with a King. You win when the twelve foundations each contain a complete sequence of thirteen cards.

Foundation Rules

  • There are twelve foundations.
  • An Ace may move to an empty foundation.
  • The foundations build up by the same suit.
  • For example the 4♠ may move onto the 3♠ and the 4♦ may move onto the 3♦. Starting with the 4♦ the following sequence can build on top 5♦ 6♦ 7♦ 8♦.

  • Any card may fill an empty space.
  • The top card is movable.

Tableau Rules

  • There are twelve tableaus.

  • The tableaus build down by alternating colors.
  • For example the Q♠ may move onto the K♦ and the Q♥ may move onto the K♣. Starting with the Q♥ the following sequence can build on top J♠ 10♦ 9♣.
  • Any card may move to an empty tableau.
  • Sequences of cards built down by alternating color can move together as a group.
